Centenary Woodlands, Langley Vale by Peta M

Having helped plant trees a couple of years ago it’s amazing to see how the landscape is slowly changing over the back of the Downs. We are so lucky to have all this open countryside around us. 

Besides getting caught in the rain, hay fever and getting lost on the way home, it was a good afternoon!

Langley Vale

England’s Centenary Wood, Langley Vale is 640 acres of rolling hills and grassy fields near Epsom.

The woodland is full of seedling native trees, including beech, rowan, hawthorn and oak and carpets of striking wildflowers. Local children, nearby residents, and volunteers from across the South East came together to help plant tens of thousands of trees.

Langley Vale will link and buffer existing ancient woodland, creating a safe environment for wildlife to thrive. It's this rich diversity of life that has led to parts of Langley Vale Wood being designated Sites of Nature Conservation Importance (SNCI).

The Field of Soldiers

Although you can’t tell from this photo the statues are about 7 foot tall, all facing the same way.  At different times of the day it can have quite an eerie feeling about it.
